Shoulder Pain Pump

The patients allege that intra-articular pain pumps manufactured and distributed by more than 20 companies cause chondrolysis, or a severe loss of cartilage, when used in the shoulder area after surgery.

The pumps deliver anesthetics and painkillers directly to the surgical site through the use of a catheter.  The injured party usually presents with injury 3-10 months after the surgery.

As a patient you should be on the look for the following post-operative symptoms:

    Persistent shoulder pain
Grinding or popping of the shoulder when mobile
    Shoulder is stiff or weak
    Limited range of motion

The following pain pumps have been targeted as defective:

    Accufuser Plus Pain Pump
    Donjoy Pain Control Device
    On-Q Painbuster
    I-Flow
    PainPump Blockaid
    Various Stryker PainPump models.
