Erythema multiforme occurring with large blister formation, mucous membrane (oral) involvement, and fever is known as "Stevens-Johnson syndrome."  The cause of this syndrome is thought to be the same as erythema multiforme, yet it is a more exaggerated form causing more extensive damage. Another variant of erythema multiforme is called "toxic epidermal necrolysis." In this variant, blister formation is very extensive with sheets of skin lifting off.
