Retaliatory Eviction
It is California state policy to protect tenants against what is known as "retaliatory eviction." In other words, a landlord cannot evict a tenant in retaliation for the tenant lawfully exercising their rights.
For example, the law prohibits landlords from evicting residential tenants, raising their rent or decreasing housing services, in retaliation against the exercise of lawful tenant rights.
Some tenants are evicted without realizing it was retaliatory.
