Home Repairs

You home will most likely be the most valuable asset you own in your lifetime. You should, therefore, take pride in your ownership. But be wary of the following home repair schemes:

  1. Unnecessary Roof Repair
Some roofers will lead you to believe that your roof is leaking and recommend an entire roof replacement. Be informed. Most likely the problems are superficial which should cost you a few hundred dollars as opposed to a few thousand.

  2. Over Treating Termite Problems
Termite problems are not as bad as you think. Con artists will prey on your fears and recommend unnecessary and costly remedies. Make sure you know the extent of your damage and the qualifications of your contractor.

  3. Leaky Basement
A wet basement does not mean you have to redo the entire foundation, but we have run across contractors that will advise exactly that. More often, the solution is simple and quite cost efficient.

  4. Over Treating Chimney Problems
Have you ever been called by a chimney cleaning service and offered an inspection for a low price.? Don't do it. You will find that after your low cost inspection your roof as more "problems" than you could ever imagine. The cost to fix those problems will not, we assure you, be low cost.

  5. Home Improvement Loans
Any contractor offering you a loan for their work is probably working in conjunction with a shady lender who will charge you outrageous fees and points. If the contractor has been paid by the lender, he obviously has little interest in doing high quality work for you.
